Management Routines (1/7): Managing Interruptions
In your diary,
make special note of when and from where your
interruptions come. In order to improve your daily
time management skills, determine the best ways you
can remove as many interruptions as possible.
- Practice writing
SMART goals (i.e. Specific, Measurable,
Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound) for each of
your future projects.
- Critique your
current project plans to ensure that existing
goals meet these criteria.
- Provide feedback
and coaching to your subordinates and peers on
their goals and plans.
- Use some forms of
formal project management or scheduling tool to
help monitor a project’s progress (e.g. time
design, time file, manage-pro etc.)
- Additionally, if
you have access to the Company’s system-wide
calendar program, learn the best and proper way
of using this tool and use it on a regular
basis, especially with respect to project
teams.
- Share your
calendar and schedule with your manager or
mentor on a regular basis, soliciting
recommendations on how you might be able to more
effectively plan and monitor a project.
